Hi everyone! Illume has officially mailed off its first checks to give back to our first three charities. With every order it was such a blessing to know that 3% would go right back to the charity that our supporters chose. Pretty in Pink Foundation, niNe. Magazine, and Teal Divas will be able to shine more light to those who need it through the help of Illume customers.
When it was time to choose our three new charities we knew we had to get our customers involved. We asked on all of our social media outlets which charities hold a special place in your hearts?! All the organizations that were suggested were all amazing organizations doing amazing work! In the end, we prayerfully chose the following three charities for the next few months.
Our first new charity will be the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation - Fostering Excellence in Children. I encourage you to learn more at harveyfoundation.com. Their foundation is based upon the notion of "reaching back to pull someone forward". The mission is to "provide outreach to fatherless children and young adults by promoting educational enrichment, one-on-one mentoring and global service initiatives that will cultivate the next generation of responsible leaders".
The second charity option is Hunger & Health Coalition based in Boone, NC. Their website is hungerandhealthcoalition.com. Boone is very near and dear to my heart since I am a graduate of App State. I grew up a lot during my four years at ASU, and Boone will always be piece of me. This organization provides food and prescriptions, free of charge, to local people. They have partnered with local physicians at the Health Department that also donate free screenings. When a parent is out of work they provide food for the family and children. The Coalition does it all! Appalachia Cookie Company has a monthly cookie subscription, 30 Thirty Project, that donates its proceeds to the Coalition, providing thirty pounds of food per subscription to local families.
The third charity is Genesis Ministries of Rockingham County. I encourage you to also visit their website at genesisministriesinc.org. The purpose behind Genesis Ministries is to provide a new beginning for individuals who are bound by addictions. It is a Christ-centered atmosphere. The ministry offers: education, dance ministry, bible study, coping skills, teen challenge curriculum, life skills, nutrition and exercise, job training, devotions, worship, fellowship, celebrate recovery, hygiene, job skills, positive self image, and so much more!
